What makes a good teacher or tutor? I have often wondered this since most of my career I have spent working with students in different environments. Tutor, Instructor, Teacher, Professor--I have held all these titles. To be honest, there really isn't much difference between them all. The main idea, most would think, would be to know more than the student. Is that all? Is knowing more than you enough of a qualification for you to want to learn from me? I would hope not, because there is so much more.

It's about comfort; it's about shared goals and working environments. It's about passion too. For me, there is no confusion. I have a deep passion for my culture, for my language, and for teaching. I love working with people, I love speaking to people and learning from them as well.

I work hard to be prepared, to be organized and to use the time given to us as best as possible. I am confident that we can achieve your goals and that we will have fun doing it! I look forward to meeting you soon.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy has always been centered on increasing the confidence of my students. I always work with positive and constructive criticism while finding each student's strengths and using them to their advantage.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I try to get to know them and figure out how they feel about where they are in that particular subject. I always feel like in every situation, I have two clients-- the parent and the student-- and I try to do my best to figure out the problem from both sides.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I work with increasing their independence and helping them become self-reflective, which will help them understand where their strengths and weaknesses lie.
