I received my Master's Degree in Childhood Special Education from Hunter College in New York City. After graduating, I worked at a private school in Harlem dedicated to helping children with various learning disabilities and behavior disorders. I then worked as an itinerant teacher for the New York City Education Department, working with students 1 on 1 after school to help them reach their academic goals. I enjoy teaching many subjects, but reading is my ruling passion; I hope to be alive the day The United States reaches a 100% literacy rate. As a reading teacher, I use many techniques to improve decoding, comprehension, and fluency. Reading instruction should be individualized, and that's exactly what I do. I work with every student on their individual needs. As a teacher, I am patient and considerate. I deliver all my lessons in a calm, even tone; I do not believe in yelling at students when they are struggling. I invite all my students to ask any questions about a subject during our sessions; no question is stupid--ask any question as many times as you need to. I moved to Seattle in December from New York City. I love the mountains and hiking trails here. On a nice day, when I am not teaching, you will find me hiking on a trail or attempting to learn a local sport (paddle-boarding is awesome but harder than it looks from afar). On a rainy day, after a morning run, I will be reading an old book or attempting to learn a new song on my guitar.
