For as long as I can remember I have always had a love for science. I have always been intrigued by biology and general health sciences and learning about our bodies and how they react to stimuli. Growing up, I sometimes had to study extra or learn things on my own, as I didn't always understand the information the way my teachers presented the information. I didn't let this stand in the way though, and I followed my passion anyway. While in high school I also attended a Biomedical Academy for half a day. I continued to work hard and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in Biological Science and a minor in Health Science. Throughout high school and college, I have tutored and been a paraprofessional both as a volunteer and employee. I have found a love for helping students who just need that extra boost or a different way of receiving information than they get in the regular class. I want to help students like myself, who need that extra study session or just to hear the material explained differently.
While I have experience in tutoring/assisting in all high school biology and labs. I have also tutored students with ADHD and ADD. I love biology, anatomy, and dissection labs for detecting abnormalities and deficiencies. My tutoring style includes getting to know students individually and personally and learning how each student best receives information. I have found through experience that most people learn best when they relate to the subject they are studying. By using examples from our everyday lives, science can be explained in a way that is easier to understand. I feel everyone can learn; we just learn in different ways. One of the most fulfilling moments I have experienced is when a student I am helping had that "ah ha" moment when it finally makes sense to them. Helping others achieve success, even if it's in a unique way or takes two or three attempts, is what makes tutoring so rewarding for me.
I enjoy reading, playing video games, and drawing in my free time. I love creating pencil drawings and I love animals. Growing up, I have always had pets who were more like family than animals. I especially love frogs and reptiles as well.
I truly enjoy helping students along their academic journeys and l want to share my love for science and learning.
