What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is simple: Relate. Relate to the student, and relate the subject to what interests the individual. Fractions in math may seem pointless to learn, but if I point out where you'll need it in daily life (rather than a math equation), it begins to gel better in the mind of the pupil. Glycolysis may seem like a lot of weird enzymes and steps, but when I relate that exact pathway with bulk muscle building (if he is into that) or why the Atkins diet is so unhealthy, it makes the pathway come to life! My first concern is getting to know and understand my students, so that I can apply their likes and interests to my teaching method and watch the 'dots connect!'
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
