The student and I met for the first time today at her apartment. We discussed the material that will be on her final and I got a sense for which topics she needs the most assistance with. We started with material from the beginning of the semester- energy and metabolism- and discussed the structure of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins and how they are utilized by the body, especially during exercise.

Introduction and understanding the difficulties of course. Went over week 3 of notes involving the concept of action potential and how it is incorporated into the skeletal muscle. Session was very successful.

The student and I had a great session. We covered renal physiology, starting with glomerular function and proceeding to urinary concentration at the loop of Henle. We will move on to the distal tubule, collecting duct, and specific ion reabsorption kinetics, as necessary, before the student's test next week.

We covered gastrointestinal physiology in detail. We reviewed respiratory, renal and gastrointestinal to ensure the student knew all the major concepts before her exam. The student was instructed on study methods and which areas in particular she needed to focus on to score well on her exam.

Today we went over what to expect for the TEAS test the student will be taking in the fall. We are especially focusing on human anatomy and physiology. She will be enrolled in this class next semester, so we are covering the basics to get her prepared and up to speed. We will use a flash card tool in order to cover anatomy vocabulary terms.

Today was our first session and I thought it went very well! First we went over the demands of the online course as it is very different from the classic lecture & lab combination, and then looked over the timeline of when the student wants to complete her assignments, quizzes, and final. We also went over study "tips" for this online course, such as highlighting what is asked in the open-book quizzes and worksheets so that we know what material is most emphasized on her final. We then spent the rest of the time going over the general concepts that were outlined in the first chapter, and then finally began touching on some chemistry that was outlined in the following chapter. All in all, I believe it was a great session and that we are a good fit! We will meet again next week at the same time (Wednesday, July 24 at 3:30), and we may work for 2 hours if need be.
