In this way, I often make use of visual aids, which makes the examples more clear. I also let students talk about themselves, so I get to know them. …philosophy is simple. Listen to the student and discover what help they need, and then craft an individualized approach that will equip and encourage the learner to excel. An example would be a technical writing student who learned to organize his term paper in the form of an essay and to include only information that supported his thesis. It was very gratifying to give this bright student a tool to use his whole life long.

Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
We went over a practice test the student had done. He did a little worse than he had done previously, but at least part of the reason is that this test was harder (from a different prep book). His worse section this time was Scrambled Paragraphs, so we will focus on those for the next session. He did fairly well on the rest of the practice test, and we went over every problem he got wrong.
The student and I focused on science and math today. Given an extrapolation on his half-test warm-up, he raised his science score by nine points!! He also did well on the math portion, consistently answering every question without leaving any blanks. Well done!
The student and I covered the few problems he missed on the ACT Math section before starting our discussion of the English section, and how to specifically apply first-and second-pass answering to it. He took a practice subject test, which we will grade next time.
This was our first session. Today we went through two subjects in ACT Math. The student is good at math. He just needs some organization and he needs to remember some of the math topics from earlier classes.
Today the student and I did another review of the essay, going into specific details about what to include or not include and looking at examples of essays that scored 1-6. We also discussed different topics that she felt comfortable referencing for her essay. After the overview, we went through a reading and math section of the practice test we are working on. The student is doing much better with her reading after learning how to give herself small breaks and focus on small chunks of the passage at a time. She performed very well in the sections we looked at today. We are continuing to work on the conceptual problems but on many questions she seems to guess quickly instead of thinking through the answer. I think further exercises in patience and taking her time will help with this quickness.
This was my first session with the student, and it went very well. He's clearly a hard worker and very smart. We went through two practice reading sections from the PSAT book, and we got through about half of a writing section. Going through the exam together, he got almost every question right. He said that it helped that I read some of the questions to him, so we talked about slowly shifting from me reading the questions to him reading the questions out loud to him reading the questions silently. Next time we want to focus a bit on ways to strengthen his vocabulary.
