I am currently a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics, and I am completing my degree remotely while living in Auburn, AL. During my undergraduate and graduate enrollment, I have had several years experience teaching and tutoring undergraduate math and science courses. My undergraduate major at Williams College was Computer Science, so I am very comfortable tutoring both computer science and engineering classes in particular, as well as math. I have received great feedback from students and supervisors in both in the teaching and tutoring of these topics, with many students meeting me regularly as they find themselves continuously improving their understanding.
I not only practice teaching but have had held a graduate assistantship at Penn State's teacher development center, where I have learned theory about being an effective teacher and tutor. I realize the importance of listening to what a student knows, how they learn, and what their goals are so as to effectively lead them to those goals. In engineering and the sciences I implement these ideas often by using lots of relevant problems and examples that will both engage and motivate students all while teaching them the concepts they need to succeed.
