What is your teaching philosophy?

I want to inspire, motivate, and encourage children every day. I want my students to not only learn, but enjoy learning. I hope that they will gain a self-confidence during the process.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would like to talk to the student and find a common ground. I want to make the student feel comfortable with me so that I can relate to him/her. This makes teaching much easier.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The best way is to help them gain confidence. To do this, the student must master basic skills.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Discussing the relevance of learning the material.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would start back with the basics and work up to the new concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

我要确保他们能够阅读words fluently. If that isn't the problem, then work on context clues, main idea, and sequence.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I think building some kind of relationship and trust is important.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

They need to know the importance of learning the skill and how they may use it some day.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

They need to demonstrate the skill in different situations. They could also explain it back to me.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Confidence is important. If they aren't confident, they do not know the material very well. The best way is to practice the material in different situations.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would evaluate their needs by talking to them and also have them demonstrate what they do know.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

You have to adapt to the student's needs in order to be successful. You need to see if they have the basic skills in order to proceed with the higher level skills.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I like visuals! I think it is important to find what works best for each student.
