Good Day!
I graduated from Manchester University in 1993 earning a degree in mathematics and education. I earned my masters from University of New England in Educational Leadership.

I have taught in both traditional and non-traditional school settings. I have taught everything from sixth grade math through Calculus. I have tutored students from kindergarten through college.

During my free time, I enjoy spending time outside, cooking, crocheting, and working out at the gym.

What is your teaching philosophy?

As a teacher, I believe that as things change so must I by being conscious of my students.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

1) Introductions 2) The student stating what he/she feels are his/her strengths and weaknesses 3) Discuss what goal or goals he/she wants to accomplish 4) Begin working on his/her weaknesses to accomplish goals.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Bring the student's interests into the lessons. Inspire the student to spend some of his/her free time to explore those interests by finding ways in which mathematics are a part of those interests.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Applying his/her learning style to get a better grasp of the skill or concept.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Incorporate the student's personal interests and learning style.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Remain patient, talk with a soft tone, provide encouragement and recognition.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Incorporate student’s interests and learning style that are connected to the subject.
