What is your teaching philosophy?

老师应该引导学生知识patiently to the highest levels of knowledge. Instructor has to simplify and bring the subject to life. Instructor has to start with making students know how the brain works and how they take responsibility for learning and how they can maximize learning. Expect the highest performance and obtain the same from those instructed.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Teach them how the brain works and how they should take responsibility for learning.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Encouraging and showing them how to set their own goals/time table to finish and evaluate their work.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Taking pride in their finished product and rewarding themselves for finishing work. Prioritizing and sacrificing to finish their work. Tell them that work started will finish with every task they complete. The final reward of course is certification, expertise in the knowledge and recruitment and more authority in the subject, which will give the student consultancy projects and money for their work for others.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break it down to the basic, simplest ideas, and give examples so that the student can master the concept.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Advice practice and group work, as well as listening to expert advice from me and others on how to develop and master comprehension. Start with questions and read and mark answer material as you read. Review to finalize answers.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Motivational techniques, use of multiple intelligence with a combination of my own experience.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Teach them how their brains work and how to take advantage of the understanding.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

非常慢的解释,给的例子practical. Guide the student through practice and building confidence. Give some rewards for getting things right. Teach them to persevere.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would enthuse and radiate the confidence from myself, and get the student to get most things right and reward with marks or recognition. Explain that we build the understanding over time; also let the student study longer to get things right.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Investigating through interviews, and knowing what they like and dislike as well as their style. Tailor learning material to their styles.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Understanding their age group and personal likes, and tailoring learning to attract their interest.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Handouts and comprehension, video, discussions and essay writing.
