Certified Tutor

I am a Math faculty member at Texas A&M University. I earned two bachelor degrees in Mathematics and in Environmental Studies, I earned a Master degree in Mathematics, an Education Specialist degree and my doctoral degree in education (ABD). I have been teaching Mathematics courses for more than 15 years at Tennessee State University and now at A&M University. Also I tutored Mathematics to 3rd 12th grade students through private group or one-to-one sessions. Beside my Math knowledge, I also taught several adults and kids the Arabic Language. I have an excellent professional teaching style to fit any students needs and level. From my long experience I have dealt with at risk students and helped them enrich their knowledge about subject materials then reach their goals of success. In my perspective I think education is a very important stage in our lives, which will open lots of opportunities for us and our kids to leading us and them to bright future. I travelled and lived in many countries around the world; this opportunity gave a chance to have a global knowledge about people coming from different cultural background which made it easier and interesting for me to deal with diverse group of students.
Life is good, so enjoy your journey in it and leave a mark on your final chapter.

What is your teaching philosophy?

As a mathematics instructor for more than 14 years, I find that most students have not yet been exposed to mathematics as it exists in real life. They might be good enough at solving the problems assigned to them in class, but rarely do they have a concept of what mathematics is about or what goes into its development. Neither can they understand why we as mathematicians choose to - or have to - devote our lives to its study. I consider it among my most pressing duties to change this. An integral part of my teaching is showing my students that mathematics is not magic handed down to them from the academic powers-that-be; instead, much of it consists of good ideas that someone with a deep enough understanding of the appropriate background material can reasonably hope to discover independently. My teaching philosophy is built on several readings through my graduate study, and also concluded from an overlook at my teaching experience in classrooms for about 14 years. As an educator, I believe that the purpose of education is to make sure every student has the opportunity to be successful in life. My philosophy in education is pragmatism. The pragmatic method is primarily a method of settling metaphysical disputes that otherwise might be interminable. Pragmatism is derived from the Greek word pragma, which means action. I believe a student's potential should be pushed and encouraged so that the student gains more knowledge of the world around him. I enjoy creative methods while teaching; even though I taught the same materials and content through the last few years, every semester I enjoy searching for something new and creative to include in my teaching style. I believe each student also has his/her own way of thinking and absorbing knowledge. I like to watch students making up their own style of learning; each one of them has his unique method of thinking, and when the learning environment is full of diversity, it will be more interesting and will attract students.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Start with introduction about myself and also to know the student, then get more information about what knowledge level does the student have to set up short term and long term goals. Decide on what teaching style the student will be comfortable with to improve the student’s skills in the subject matter, and motivate the student to participate in the session.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

通过关注所有学生subje弱点ct and strengthening his/her skills to increase self-esteem and confidence about their knowledge.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By giving more practice, or maybe using a technique based on their ages to keep their focus; also make sure to keep the fun part of delivering the information.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Explain the topic from different perspectives, maybe use different methods, and keep revising and bringing it back in any other different topic.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

More practice reading and follow-up.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Being friendly and smiling, and starting with a lower level compare to what they are struggling in to connect concepts and knowledge.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Make sure to use positive language, compliment them on their work and always motivate them.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Evaluate them by giving questions from random examples I already explained.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Have them speak for themselves and express their opinion if they are gaining any knowledge, and also grade their work and let them keep it.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Giving some practice questions, and asking simple questions while explaining new material.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Based on what they are looking for improving a grade level on.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

我已经经历记住所有主题在数学courses or subjects and in the Arabic Language, and I will express all knowledge in it.
