I grew up in Tacoma, WA in a family that placed a great emphasis on education, and I spent most of my childhood with my nose in a book. I'm comfortable with many subjects, but my heart (and real expertise) lies in History and Language Arts. I majored in Medieval Studies and English Literature at Smith College and took a wide variety of classes outside of my majors, including Psychology, Geology, and Math. I graduated Cum Laude in the spring of 2011, and I've been a full-time professional tutor in the Denver school district for the two years since graduation, working mostly with struggling readers and writers in middle school and high school.
I love planning exciting and individualized lessons and seeing skills click for students, but my all-time favorite part of teaching is getting to read my students' writing. Sometimes it is heartbreaking, sometimes it is more insightful than I expect, and sometimes it is the most hilarious thing I've ever read in my life--and best of all, my students get to discover how much fun it is to have a responsive audience for their ideas.
