Certified Tutor

I am a North Carolina native and a graduate of Appalachian State University where I received my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. For the last 5 years I have practiced as a Critical Care Registered Nurse, specifically in various intensive care units. I have recently attained my Critical Care (CCRN) certification, which essentially reinforces the special knowledge and experiences required for acute and critical care nursing. I worked as a clinical instructor for a local community college, and that opportunity lit a new career path for me as I would like to continue my progression in nursing education, with the end goal of teaching as a college professor.

I teach nursing to help students realize their full potential, whether they are young adults, new college graduates, or second- or third-career adults. I've had coworkers who were 19 years old, and in the same unit, others who were just graduating nursing school at 40 years old! I appreciate working with staff of such a vast age range because everyone brings something different to the table, and diversity builds the best team.

As a visual and hands-on learner, myself, I believe that fun, interactive and enthusiastic teaching methods are the best way to learn and retain information. I believe maintaining a positive atmosphere helps students stay engaged and interested. I enjoy open and informal discussions, but I also appreciate a strategized and detailed plan. As an educator, I hope to influence character, build confidence and competency, promote professionalism, and encourage compassion!
