Certified Tutor

Thirty years of teaching elementary school from Grades 3 to 8, has confirmed for me that I absolutely enjoy working with students. As a graduate of McMaster University where I achieved a Bachelor in Physical and Health Education, I continued on to Queen's University where I completed my Bachelor of Education. While doing my practicums for both degrees I worked with students both in and out of the classroom where I was able to support their learning through a variety of teaching styles. I was then encouraged to further my education in both Special Education and Primary/Junior Science where I obtained a specialist standing. Upon retiring from teaching I continue to work with students of all ages tutoring them in a variety of subjects, from elementary math to high school english. I especially enjoy tutoring students in elementary math and science as I feel those are my strongest subjects. Teaching and tutoring have always been a passion for me. Seeing students' faces light up when they have acquired a new skill or concept not only brings me joy, but reinforces my philosophy that all students, no matter their ability levels, can learn and prepare themselves for a successful life. With encouragement, patience and understanding a student's abilities, positive steps can be made toward the success students are looking for. In my spare time I participate in many sports, from skiing to swimming as well as scrapbook and create yard art.
