I am a retired attorney and historian from Canada.
During the course of my career I have had many opportunities to teach classrooms and to tutor students individually. I have done so on and off and regularly for at least 10 years.
I am passionate about this because the transmission of knowledge acquired by education and experience is critical to our future generation of leaders.
Working with students was a great experience for me because of the possibility of exchanges and see how my students relate to the wider world generally. Likewise when exchanging with them I bring a lifetime of experience in the real world to complement their studies. After all, I am 67 years old...
I got my Bachelor's Degree in Law and my Master's Degree in Law from Universit Laval in Quebec City, Canada. these studies were in matters of Civil Law and were undertaken in French.
I got another Bachelor's Degree in Arts with a Joint Honours Mention in both Political Science and History from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. I also have a Master of Arts Degree from the Royal Military College of Canada in War Studies with a concentration in History, most notably the History of the Second World War and the History of US and British Foreign Policies.
I love teaching history generally, especially extraordinary events. Nowadays History is about ordinary events in everyday people's lives. It is extremely important of course but extraordinary events shape nations and macro politics and economics. It is to these events that I like drawing attention.
I tutored and taught in history and law. The law I am referring to here is Canadian Constitutional and Administrative Law and Civil Law. The history I taught was Canadian History, Canadian Military History, US History and US Military History. I also taught and tutored courses in World History, European History and War and Technology.
My favourite subjects to teach were World History, European History and US History. Why? As I explained before I like drawing attention to the extraordinary events in history that shape nations and entire societies. The World, Europe, and the United States were the canvass over which these extraordinary events took place.
My teaching philosophy and style are directed towards student needs. I like to exchange with them and find out what they like the most and why. I also like to bring my lifetime experience to bear on occasion because I believe it complements traditional learning through teachers and readings.
Being a graduate of a military university I love playing war games the like of which are played by think tanks in the US armed forces. We recreate past campaigns all the way back to Ancient Greece and forward to future hypothetical warfare in Europe and Asia.
I also like snowshoeing, golf and pistol shooting
