I have had 4 years of experience providing volunteer after school tutoring to children in 1st-5th grade in an Houston ISD program that met at a church. We worked with ESL children and assisted them with English comprehension and grammar. Additionally, I spent a year as a volunteer at an after school program working in Spring Branch ISD, assisting children with reading/writing comprehension. I also helped the children in each of these programs think both critically and compassionately by reading them stories and having them discuss how they would feel if they were a character in a book and what they would do to solve the problem/s the main character of the book faced. Finally, I worked with iKidz at West U. Elementary and showed elementary age children (K-2) how letters and words relate to one other by assisting them with word puzzles.
