Hello, I'm Scott! I've taught at the university level for over 3 years in Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, General Physics, and General Biology. I'm very passionate about teaching and have been keen towards the methods and explanations used to help my students understand material. My number one goal in education is to ensure students deeply understand material on a conceptual and practical level as I believe this is the most critical aspect of science comprehension.
My educational philosophy is that any student can learn any topic given enough time with proper instruction. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biology and Chemistry, however, I had similar student struggles in high school. I look for new ways of explaining topics to students from all backgrounds. Additionally, I've performed academic research at my last university in an effort to improve student content comprehension and studying strategies.
I use a mastery based approach in my teaching. That is, I ensure students fully understand one topic before moving on to the next. I've tutored students taking AP course, college courses, and test prep (MCAT, DAT, OAT, etc.). I provide students with information about outside resources I've found helpful, and ensure students have a game plan in their learning approach outside of tutoring sessions.
