I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I recently graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics Education (Secondary Option) from the University of New Hampshire in May 2017. I am currently pursuing my M.Ed. at the University of New Hampshire and will be certified in May 2018 after completing a year of student teaching. I was a tutor at the University of New Hampshire Mathematics Center for three years and was responsible for helping students with their Pre-Calculus, Calculus I & II, and Finite mathematics courses. I have also participated in a variety of summer internships for underprivileged youth, namely Breakthrough Collaborative and Upward Bound, and I'm especially passionate about making mathematics more equitable and accessible to underserved populations. My favorite subjects to tutor are Algebra I and II because they are crucial building blocks of mathematics, and contrary to popular belief, they are rich with opportunities for exploration and critical thinking.

I love tutoring because it not only facilitates greater understanding of the mathematics, but it's also an opportunity to get to know students personally and develop meaningful connections. As a tutor, I believe in treating students holistically, which often means helping them solidify their study habits, develop metacognition about their learning by understanding their strengths and areas for growth, become their own advocates, and take risks with the material. I strongly believe that all students are capable of accessing higher-level mathematics and I'm passionate about facilitating those access points accordingly. I'm an advocate for the idea that mistakes support learning, meaning I use students' errors and misconceptions as vessels to develop deeper understanding and proficiency. I try to keep my questions as open-ended as possible so that I can guide students' growth while also allowing them the space to express their own thoughts and intuition.

Outside of tutoring, I mainly enjoy eating, reading, and hammocking. On an ideal day, I'd most likely be eating food while simultaneously reading in a hammock. After mathematics, my second greatest love is all things cheese, so on any given day, one can typically find me salivating in the grocery store over a good chunk of muenster or mozzarella. I also seize any opportunity to travel and explore the many wonders of the world, and my ultimate bucket list goal is to eat my way across all seven continents. My other great loves are slam poetry and The Office, which has made me laugh more times than anything or anyone else.
