What is your teaching philosophy?
You already know more about English literature and grammar than you think you do. My goal is for us to engage in a conversation in such a way that your natural talents, such as speaking and storytelling, supplement your academic knowledge.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I'd love to spend some time getting to know you, and specifically the way you learn - what has worked for you in the past, what you're already passionate about - in order to be able to draw upon your experiences and talents as we continue our academic conversation.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
My professors would always tell me hat, in writing academically, there is no right or wrong answer - just theories that are supported well or theories that are supported poorly. My goal in tutoring is to help and encourage my students to find their own answers when engaging with a text, and to impart rhetorical tools to ensure that they are able to get their opinion across.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
English literature is exciting when approached with the right attitude. Ideally, reading and critically analyzing becomes a dialogue between the author and the reader, and this relationship has the opportunity to change lives and influence huge groups of people. Ideally, my dream is to be able to impart a love for literature and writing as a means to share a student's unique thoughts with the world.
