Babatunde

Certified Tutor

I graduated from Evangel University in 2006 with a bachelors degree in Government and a Concentration in French. Then, I went on to get my Masters degree in Public Policy from George Mason University focusing in policy analytics and management. I also hold two graduate certificates from Georgetown University, one in Biodefense and Public Policy and another in Project Management. I am also certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute, and a Certified ScrumMaster by Scrum Alliance. My career applications have primarily been focused on management consulting in the public sector.

I work in the Washington, DC metro area supporting the federal government with respect to public policy development and implementation for over ten years. My experiences in management consulting and tutoring follow the same guiding principle: make order out of disorder, and turn complexity into simplicity.

I approach all learning with a positive attitude of making complex concepts into more simple and manageable knowledge. Whether we are dealing with heavily quantitative or qualitative subjects, the key is to make learning joyful by removing complexity and ambiguity. I look forward to inspiring many others to advance the joy of learning through mastering complexity into simplicity. Keep it simple.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Good teaching is first delighting in something, and then sharing it with others so that they can delight in it as well.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would introduce myself and share that I, too, am a lifelong student, eager and excited to share in the joy of continued learning.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I have a host of tools and techniques that have made me an effective learner, and these are shared and practiced through every session we have.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Motivation is a function of enjoyment and understanding. It is only natural that success begets more success. The focus must be to facilitate conceptual understanding, which fosters independent motivation and lifelong success.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

In accordance with my teaching philosophy, I aim to turn complexity into simplicity. The key is to make a complex matter more digestible and simpler to understand.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I think any struggle with comprehension has a root cause. To overcome the struggle is to first find the root cause of the issue, and remove that barrier. We'll be happy to begin wherever the student is and go from there.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I have found that empathy with, and respect for, the student is both an essential and successful strategy. I begin by recognizing the student's innate dignity and intellectual scholarship, being humble enough to see that we are colleagues in tackling any given discipline.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Excitement in any subject begins with understanding that complexity is just simplicity yet to be identified. That is the role of the tutor -- to remove the barriers impairing the clear and simple view of the subject.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

"Repetition is the mother of all learning."

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Confidence is a natural byproduct of understanding. As we focus on conceptual understanding, confidence will naturally follow.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

我只是问,并就此提出建议,圣udent's input and consent to the recommendation.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

There will be some principles that apply universally, but I also aim to ensure that I customize according to student's individual preferences.
