I believe that all students can learn math! Sometimes it just takes the right person to help them understand where their mistakes are!
I have been a high school math teacher since 2005 and have taught and tutored every level of math from Pre-Algebra through College Calculus including IB math and AP Calculus! I know I can help any math student be successful!!
I start by seeing what the student knows and then working from there to create understanding on the math they are learning. I believe in showing the student what to do when they are starting out and then progressing to the student showing me what to do.
我经常看到他们是如何评估学生doing in their learning and make adjustments accordingly.
I have taken countless students who previously could not pass or learn math into a path of not only learning math, but loving to learn it and doing well in their next course!
I know I could help any student succeed in their math class!
I am currently an instructor of IB Math SL, AP Calculus AB and Algebra 2 and I am a adjunct professor with a community college teaching College Algebra and College Trigonometry.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in finding out what the student knows about the subject first, and then using that knowledge to help them understand whatever it is that they are struggling with.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will ask them what they are having trouble with and then ask them what they know about the task at hand. Once we have that, then we can "build the bridge" between what they know and what they need to know.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By assisting them at first in answering the questions they are working on, without doing it myself, and then slowly removing myself from the process so that they can work on the problem totally independently.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
By starting with what they already know, and then using that, along with breaking down the problem, to help them understand what they don't know.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I use a method called KNWS, where students identify what they Know from the problem, what is Not Needed from the problem, and what the problem Wants them to solve. Then the student will come up with a Strategy to solve the problem. This allows for the problem to be easily broken down and understood.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know what they already know, and using it to address the problem at hand.
