What is your teaching philosophy?
When I both learn and teach, my goal is to make connections between various subjects and one's own experiences. By sewing a thread through various concepts and into other areas of learning, I find that understanding comes much more readily and is longer lasting.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
When initially meeting with a student, I will first ask questions to gauge their experience and background with the subject. Then I typically discuss the "big picture" of what we will be learning so that there is a larger vision to work within as we cover specific course material later on.
