Rahul
Certified Tutor
I am currently a second year student at Babson College, studying for a bachelors of science degree in business with a concentration in finance and entrepreneurship. I am a motivated student and have taken the highest level of courses possible in both high school and my first year of college. I am a very mathematically minded person so I have a deep understanding of numbers which will help me effectively teach math based courses. I believe that I will make a good tutor because I am able to effectively teach in a number of different styles including visual, verbal and by example so I can make sure that if a student does not understand something at first, they will at the end.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that my students have not completely learned something until they feel confident that they can teach it to someone else if necessary.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would bring along practice questions to help gauge the student's understanding of the subject. I would also have a conversation with the student to see what they think they are comfortable with and what they think needs work. This session will help set the foundation for future sessions.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by teaching them WHY they do something rather than just HOW. This will help them form a deeper understanding of the subject matter, and they will be able to use this understanding to connect to future subjects that they can teach themselves.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student stay motivated by setting challenging but attainable goals for them. This way, the student can feel that they are both working hard and also progressing through their learning.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will try to help a student that has difficulty learning a concept by approaching the concept in different ways. For example, I would visually show them how the concept works rather than verbally explaining it to them.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
The best way to improve reading comprehension is through practice. I will have the students practice reading excerpts. I will also teach them tips and tricks to use while reading to help understand the material better. For example, writing a 2 to 3 word summary by each paragraph helps the student to know where exactly to find the information needed to answer a question.
