What is your teaching philosophy?

Anyone can accomplish anything with enough practice and determination.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know their interests and learning style. If I can relate the problem to an area the student likes, it'll be easier to understand.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By inspiring a desire to understand the world around them.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By showing them their progress during the session.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

By explaining it a different way and walking them through the problem step by step.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I establish a baseline to understand where the student is at and begin there. My philosophy is to take what you know and build on it.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Show how fun a subject can be once you understand what's going on.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I'd end every session with a quick quiz to evaluate the student's progress.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Start with simple concepts and build on them.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

By first talking with them or their parents about what they expect out of the tutoring sessions.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

A lot of practice problems and examples.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By honing in on the concepts that they're struggling with and explaining it in a different way.
