How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Finding out what they enjoy doing and incorporating it with their studies will make it more interesting and fun.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Teaching the student and then testing their knowledge with a worksheet or quiz.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Making the subject interesting and showing the child that they can succeed!
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Getting to know the student, analyzing the child's work, quizzing the student on the subject and asking questions as you teach the subject.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Getting to know the student and their needs will allow you to adapt your teaching methods to what they need to succeed.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Worksheets, visual aids, chat, and any other strategies that might help the student to succeed.
What is your teaching philosophy?
To adapt to the student's need and make learning as fun as possible!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know the student, find out what they are having problems with and then determine the best learning style (visual, auditory, etc.).
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By providing the necessary resources for them to further their education on the given subject (handouts, websites, readings, etc.).
How would you help a student stay motivated?

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Help them work through the skill and then break down the problem to help them understand it better.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Read the information to the student then have them read it to you. Then go through each question and have them underline the answers in the text.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Understanding the student and their learning strategies, being patient and making it as fun as possible.
