In a typical first session with a student, I get to know their strengths and weaknesses and learn what they would like to work on in our sessions.

I can help a student be an independent learner by giving them assignments, walking them through the process, and giving them feedback on results.

I help students stay motivated by showing them how much they have improved over time.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, I patiently explain it and walk him or her through sample problems.

I work with students who are struggling with reading comprehension by walking them through sample problems and explaining the reasoning behind each.

Strategies that I have found to be most successful when I start to work with students are meeting them where they are and working with them on topics they are struggling with the most.

I help struggling students to get excited and engaged by working with them to improve so that they are no longer struggling in that area.

Techniques I use to be sure a student understands the material are repetition and practice problems.

I build a student's confidence in a subject by giving them easier topics to start with, and working to more advanced concepts.

I evaluate a student's needs by asking them where they are struggling the most.

I adapt my tutoring to a student's needs by going as fast or as slow as they require and working on each topic as much as that particular student needs it.

I use practice problems and that student's own textbooks.

My teaching philosophy is that everyone is capable of excelling through hard work, practice and experienced support.
