I am a senior at the University of Wyoming and I am graduating with honors with a B.S. in Physiology, a B.S. in Molecular Biology with minors in Chemistry and Psychology in May of 2016. I have extensive experience tutoring Human Physiology, Endocrinology, General Biology, Organic Chemistry and Molecular Biology. I love tutoring biological sciences because there are endless examples, workable problems and area of interest that help to make the subject really fun! My teaching philosophy centers around individualism, no student learns the exact same way as any other student and I am a firm believer in catering my teaching to the needs of my students. I was born and raised in Wyoming, so the outdoors is a huge part of my life. I enjoy snowboarding, skiing and snowshoeing in the winder and hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking in the summer. I love taking my dog, Albert, with me on all kinds of outdoor adventures.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is based on variety and interest. It is so much easier to absorb information if it is applied to something interesting to the student. Every person learns differently so I use a variety of approaches to identify how each student best learns.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know the student a little bit. Ask them how they like to learn, what materials they have been given and ask them their expectations of me. I would make sure to answer any questions on the subject matter they had before the session ended.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I believe that it is important to incorporate critical thinking skills into every session. It is important to identify the best way each student learns so that they can utilize that and the critical thinking skills in their future to become more independent.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would link the subject matter to topics they're interested in. Proving the importance of information helps with motivation. I would also make sure to create an environment that ensures accountability, through material reviews and practice assignments that we could go over at the beginning of each session.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

退一步,通过技能或优惠pt step by step, being careful to make sure the student had full understanding of each step before moving on.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

With reading comprehension, it is important to identify the problem. Some issues can be resolved by brushing up on vocabulary, others require more in depth assessment. I enjoy using examples, and it's important to practice!

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would make sure that I could find links from that subject to something they are interested in. The world isn't broken up into basic subjects. You can link about any two things together in one way or another. It's all about being creative!

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I think one of the best ways to learn, and to point out weak spots is to let the student teach me. I also find this technique helps to make information stick.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

我发现学习一个学生喜欢学习,and to get examples of activities they think are enjoyable is a great way to create an environment of success. For example, if a student likes puzzles, reviews and examples could be in puzzle form, making them more fun and making the student more excited to do the activities.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I adapt my teaching strategies, examples and ideas for each student I tutor. Every student is different, and they often struggle in a classical education setting because all students are often taught the same way.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I like using a lot of pictures, figures and interactive activities. If a student has a something specific that helps them learn, I am always willing to create materials and methods around that.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

To help build confidence, I make sure to set attainable goals for and with the student, and hold the student to those goals. I keep close records of progress, and when students can watch themselves improve, that helps build confidence tremendously.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I really enjoying using practice questions for this. I think that going over a question thoroughly helps to identify weak spots well. Every question should be about more than right or wrong; it's important that the student tell my why each answer is right or wrong.
