I am currently a Kindergarten teacher in an inclusion classroom. I have been teaching for 3 years in a public school district. I hold a M.E.D. in Early Childhood Special Education and B.S. in Early Childhood Education. I have experience working with a wide range of learners. I feel that using student's interests can really bring learning to life. Students are much more engaged when they are interested in what they are learning. Outside of the classroom; I love to dance (tap, ballet, jazz), watch New England Sports, go to concerts, and explore new places! I look forward to meeting you and opening your student's eyes to the wide world of learning!

What is your teaching philosophy?
Engagement and connecting real-life experiences makes learning meaningful to students, which is the ultimate goal. If it has meaning, a student is more likely to have a yearning to learn more about it.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first thing I would like to do is get to know a student so I can tutor based on their interests.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will scaffold learning and slowly pull away so the student will end up with the tools to be independent.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I will provide encouragement and incorporate their interests into learning.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will try to seek an alternative approach. If a student is not understanding, maybe the style of teaching needs to be changed.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Reading a small part at a time, and stopping to review may help a student who is struggling with comprehension. Continuing this process will help the student remember what they have been reading.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know your student at first helps to build a trusting relationship where the student will feel comfortable with their tutor.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would try to intertwine the student's interests with the subject area to help get them excited about it.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would ask the student to explain it themselves and possibly answer some questions on their own to make sure they understand the material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Practicing with the student until they feel comfortable enough to do it on their own will help build their confidence.
