I am a home educating mom of six children. We love learning together and studying all kinds of subjects from Greek to geography and marine biology to Medieval history and chemistry. Although I am their teacher, they teach me more than I had ever imagined they would about the subjects they are interested in.

My favorite subject is math, which I have enjoyed since junior high. I majored in math at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and took my first physics course my sophomore year. I loved it and majored in that, too. I love seeing complex things broken down into simple pieces. That's how I like to teach my students. I want them to find the "simple" in any problem they encounter, and step by step break it down into manageable pieces using the tools they already have. I like them to be creative, and sometimes we draw pictures or use everyday objects to lead us to multiple ways to solve a particular problem.

Aside from academics, I enjoy travelling with my family, volunteering as a quiz team coach, playing word games, visiting parks and museums, and recently I began taking violin lessons with my daughter.
