My love of tutoring began at an early age: When I learned to read at four, I tried to teach my infant brother! I held on to this passion as I tutored both elementary schoolers and college students while I was a student at Furman University. I specialize in writing tutoring: I find the process of polishing a paper until it shines invigorating. Guiding students to reveal their thoughts clearly in their writing is rewarding, and I look forward to helping you express yourself in the best ways possible.
Clarity is an important quality in tutoring as well as writing. In every tutoring session, I work hard to make sure that the student and I are working at the appropriate pace: I aim to challenge the student but not overwhelm him or her. We set reasonable goals at the beginning of each tutoring session, and we assess our progress at the end. This is part of an important learning process, as together we will discover what works and doesn't work for this particular student. This individualization is part of what makes tutoring so enriching, and is part of why I love this work!
My education has well-prepared me to share my knowledge and skills with other students. My perfect score on the reading portion of the SAT aided my admission to Furman University from which I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. But more important than my educational stats is the training that I received at Furman. I took an intensive course on tutoring, which led to a tutoring position in the writing center. I worked closely with students at all skill levels on their reading and writing in all subjects, and I learned the most important skill of tutoring: listening to what my students need.
I look forward to meeting you--let's work together toward your academic success! I can promise you an engaging tutoring experience that will improve your writing and strengthen your confidence.
