I have always used the philosophy that anything worth doing, is worth doing right. This is also very true in the learning process. Some content may be difficult to understand, but with effort and persistence, it can and will get done.

我目前教授essional secondary teaching certificate which allows me to teach/tutor grades 7-12 in all sciences. I really enjoy the earth sciences and physical sciences. I think that there are tons of examples that we can observe in the world around us everyday.

I enjoy being outdoors, especially on the water. I love summer time and try to get outside as much as possible.

What is your teaching philosophy?

With patience and individualized learning, all students can learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Find out what type of learner they are using Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Offer them some tools and strategies that would best suit them.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Encompass the idea that learning can be fun.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Instruct the skill using conceptual learning, and then build on the topic.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Be patient with them, and offer some strategies to help in their comprehension.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

To try to build a healthy teacher/student relationship and work together on their learning.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Empathize. Some topics are difficult to understand. Explain that that is one of the reasons learning is fun.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

In science especially, we would change the variables and see if the student can get to the conclusion.
