I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. As early as High School, I knew that English literature would continue to play an influential role in my education. I've always loved to read and in my junior year, I started experimenting with my own creative writing. I decided to travel out of state for college, to experience more of the world. I majored in English at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY with a concentration in African American Literature. It was there that I realized I wanted to teach, continue to enhance my own education, and attend graduate school in pursuit of my PhD. I'm currently a PhD candidate at Vanderbilt, completing my dissertation on literary New Orleans and black cultural production. In my free time, I love to travel, go to movies, spend time outdoors, try new restaurants with my friends, and generally explore new and interesting sites/attractions in the city where I live.

What is your teaching philosophy?
After five semesters of teaching courses with the explicit objectives of instilling the basic elements of quality college-level writing, a task that has ingrained two primary objectives within me as an instructor: 1) I want my students to improve as writers, as it applies to their individual levels of proficiency 2) I'd like for them to become more astute intellectual/critical thinkers, a skill set I hope they'll apply not only to literary texts but out in the world as well.
