I am a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a B.A. in Ethics, History and Public Policy. Additionally, I attended American University and received a Masters of Public Administration, with studies focused on Social Policy and Non-Profit Management/Leadership.
I have tutored children and youth for over 10 years, grades 3 12, working primarily with "at-risk" students in danger of failing classes and/or not graduating from high school.
My students have come from structured after school programs, community based organizations/church referrals and word-of-mouth. I assist young people in study skills/organizational skills, homework completion, understanding subject matter, college application processes/college essay development/entrance exam preparation, and career exploration. English, Reading, Writing, and History/Government/Civics are my primary tutoring subjects; however, I have tutored elementary students in all major subjects and provided one-on-one tutoring for High school AP course preparation.
My passion stems from the desire to help students achieve their educational and personal goals. I believe that every child has the ability to learn and acquire knowledge for themselves. My professional life, spanning the non-profit and private sectors, has allowed me to support initiatives to improve public education at a national grassroots level and to help communities understand localized high school graduation requirements. In my spare time I volunteer with various local organizations focused on performing arts, youth development, academic achievement, job readiness and civic engagement.
