I am a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a minor in communication. I am planning on going back to school for my Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology. I am currently in my second year as a special education paraprofessional. I work for the Autism Spectrum Disorder program at Cambridge Street Upper School in Cambridge, MA. The previous year I worked in a special education program which caters to children on various levels of the Autism spectrum in addition to children with simple learning disabilities.
My favorite subjects to tutor are English, social studies/history, and elementary level reading and math. I have always had a passion for English and social studies so it brings me great joy to help students who want to increase their knowledge in these subjects too. I enjoy teaching and tutoring kids because I am very patient and I love to watch them learn and grow as students.
I am currently tutoring a student in ESL. This is my first time working in this subject area but it is a positive and fulfilling experience. I like to equate my teaching style with that of the old saying, if at first you don't succeed try try again. I encourage students to keep playing with different studying strategies to find one that works the best for him or her. The best technique that I find works best when teaching a student a new concept is to pull examples from his or her own life that directly relate to what I am trying to teach them to comprehend.
