I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Adam

Certified Tutor

I am a French and History teacher originally from Massachusetts, now living in Brooklyn. I received my BA in History and French from the College of the Holy Cross and my Masters in Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I have worked with students my entire life, as a substitute, paraprofessional, and full-time teacher teaching both social studies and French. I spend my summers working in Nice, France at a summer camp for American high school students, running activities and trips while tutoring them in French. My main areas of expertise are French and History though I also tutor Literature and SAT Prep (Verbal/Writing). In my years as a teacher and tutor I have learned that having fun is a great indicator of success. Piling too much pressure onto students only creates stress and self-doubt so I like to keep things light. I like to make lots of comparisons to current events that are relevant to the subject matter at hand to make things less intimidating and foreign. When I am not working I like playing and recording original music, cooking (often French dishes, not surprisingly), and watching sports. I am a huge fan of Liverpool and all the New England teams (yeah, this year has been rough) and love watching my fantasy teams underachieve.
