Certified Tutor

Teaching has been my passion for over eight years. I have taught four plus years of middle and senior high school Spanish as well as three plus years of high school English and Mythology. Additionally, I have taught English Language Arts and enrichment to students in grades 5-8.

I obtained my Master of Education degree from Queens College graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2007. The emphasis of my Master’s degree is English with a double major in Spanish. Hunter College
is my alma mater (Bachelor of Arts degree), majoring in English and History. I hold two New York State Teaching Certifications. They are a NYS Permanent Certification in English (7-12) and a NYS Professional Certification in Spanish (7-12).

I am a native speaker of Spanish and love working with young people and adults. My most recent assignment was working full-time in a leave replacement position teaching Spanish IA (7th grade), Spanish IB (8th grade) and Introduction to Foreign Language to 6th graders at Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School. Previously, I taught the full year as a part-time Spanish Regents I and FLEX–6 teacher at Hicksville HS and Hicksville MS. During the 2008-2009 school year I held a full-time leave replacement position at Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale where my course load included Introduction to Foreign Language (6th graders), Basic Spanish (7th graders)and Regents Spanish Level I
(8th graders).

Teaching high school English at the renowned Townsend Harris High School, The Wheatley School in Westbury and at Newfield High School in Selden, has illuminated the wide variety of students, their
positive learning abilities and has revealed the joy of bringing the beauty of the English language and its literature to young people.

My extensive school and life experience, along with my passion for teaching make me an ideal tutor. The triumph my students experience lies in implementing total immersion of Spanish in the classroom. Beginning with the very first “Buenos Dias” and continuing through the end of the school year, this approach to learning a new language lays the foundations for an exciting learning experience.

While maintaining a simple and solid daily classroom routine, and by implementing a combination of innovative and traditional techniques in my classroom, my students arrive in class eager to learn. It is my express belief that students understand the complexities and beauty of the written word, whether it be Shakespeare, Langston Hughes, Steinbeck or Cervantes, through aesthetic education. Putting aesthetic education into practice fosters the creation of beauty and creativity in each individual student.

Proficien NYS外交语言cy Exam, the hard work and diligence my students expended has resulted in great success. At Manhasset, 100% passed with 90% attaining Mastery Level; at Farmingdale, 98% passed with 82% attaining Mastery; and at Hicksville, 96% passed with 82% attaining Mastery.

Additionally, as a member of AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese), I have offered my students the opportunity to participate in the National Spanish Exam. My students’ results are outstanding with twenty-two National Medal Winners – four (4) gold, six (6) silver and twelve (12) bronze medalists. Additionally forty-five (45) students have received Honorable Mention.

My English teaching experience specifically includes English 9 Regents and English 9 Honors; English 10R; English 11R; Mythology (9-12); Writing Process and Linguistics. In my 11R English class, 98% of my students attained a passing grade on the New York State English Regents Exam, while 75% attained a Mastery Level grade of 85% or better.
