Please don't procrastinate by Maritza - September 2022 Scholarship Essay

Past Maritza,

Please stop procrastinating. You keep pushing things back until the last minute and then panicking about the time constraints and your ability to submit it on time. On more than one occasion, this has caused you to be unable to apply to scholarships and colleges. Even things like looking for birthday gifts and planning hangouts with your friends, which are unrelated to school and should be fun, are postponed, and they become yet another task rather than fun.
You chose to major in architecture despite knowing how time-consuming it is and the effort you would need to put in. So put in the time and work. Believe me that your habit of procrastinating has only left me with various sleepless nights and days that I thought would completely break me. Nothing good has ever come out of procrastinating so stop already. You know you don’t “work better under pressure”, you just finish the task at hand, disregarding the quality of work.
The deadlines never stop and they just keep piling up. Getting through the list will only get harder if you don’t give each task enough space and time. At the end of the day, you will spend around the same amount of time working on the tasks at hand whenever you choose to do them. The only difference is that if you don’t procrastinate you don’t have that continuous stress of whether or not you will complete the task by the deadline. Choose to be calmer and more organized. You shouldn’t live on the clock half of the week and do nothing the rest, knowing the future you are creating for yourself. I hope you realize that to improve our future life, we have to develop better habits and decide that it is time to stop procrastinating. I also hope that you make that choice now and don’t postpone it.
