Surprising Myself by Janie - November 2022 Scholarship Essay

My most surprising source of inspiration so far this school year has been my younger self. From the time I was little, I’ve always known what I wanted to do. The little girl in me wanted to be an elementary teacher from the first day I came home from school. I loved going to school and learning new things with my friends and classmates. I also loved explaining to the other kids how to do a skill or how I do it, so maybe it would be easier for them.
My inspiration to become a teacher helps me to get through the school year because I will need a high school diploma to go to college. I want to become a teacher because I love children. I want to make the same impact in their lives as some of my teachers had on me. I want children to feel loved and welcomed. I want to teach them the fundamentals of education and let them have fun while doing it. I look most forward to taking my students on field trips and watching them learn and explore. When I was an elementary student, I most enjoyed field trips because we didn’t have to do work that day and we got to go somewhere new. I want other children to have those same experiences as I did which is my most surprising source of inspiration this school year.
