Being Taught by Isaac - August 2021 Scholarship Essay

Describe a time when you contributed something to your community. How did this event impact you?

My mother always told me that if you can learn from an experience, then the experience within itself is a valuable lesson. During the 2020-2021 school year I learned how to help struggling middle and elementary school students. It was a valuable lesson, because I learned how to share my knowledge with others in need. During the pandemic I contributed to my community in several ways. First I started a tutoring group for my immediate family members and a few of my school friends. This was very helpful, because my family and friends were able to acquire the necessary skills to successfully complete the lessons assigned.

Another community project that I worked on was making protective cloth mask for people in my community. During the pandemic mask were scares and a lot of the mask being distributed did not supply the quality and protection needed to keep people safe for contracting COVID. I made several mask and distributed them to a local foodbank and homeless shelter. It was such a good feeling to help others in need. This has impacted me because I am now thinking about other ways where my services can be provided to help others in my community.
