Don't sleep on it by Carstyn - September 2022 Scholarship Essay

If I could give one piece of advise to my past self it would be to not procrastinate. I did myself a disservice by not having my mind made up on the college of my choice until it was very late into the application year and therefore, I was unable to get into a program that would help me afford college with little out of pocket expenses. This would have been possible because I come from a family that doesn't make a lot of money and tend to live paycheck to paycheck even while still living within their means. I never wanted for much and I was taught at an early age the value of money and how much work goes into the "wants" of life. Unfortunately, as a typical teenager, I didn't take the advantage of applying to school early and getting selected for special grants for students in my income bracket. I now have to take out student loans to be able to achieve my dream of video animation. A dream I have had since before I was in kindergarten. In fact, I completed a GT project about becoming a Video Game Designer when I was 5. I still have the poster hanging on my wall.
I am now trying to play catch-up and apply to scholarships that I qualify for (there are very few) to help me continue to afford college. I really wish I wouldn't have "slept on it" and gotten myself in gear, as my mom consistently tried to do but, I always wanted to do other things that are insignificant now.
So, if you have a dream or a goal in mind, don't sleep on it. Get up and chase it.
