My Friend by Angela - June 2021 Scholarship Essay

I have had many teachers that I look up to but one of the best teachers that I ever had was named Mrs. Sprinkle. She was my pre-algebra and science teacher for eighth grade.

她是一位年长的teacher, near retirement age, and normally this would unfortunately mean that students would take advantage of the teacher because they were older. However, this was not the case with Mrs. Sprinkle. It seemed like every opinion thrived in that classroom and for a moment whether you were a jock or a nerd the world got along. She understood everyone and took the time to do so. She joked around with the students and made the classroom a welcoming and fun place to be.

I want to be a teacher and that is why I am currently going to college. Mrs. Sprinkle taught me that a teacher should not just teach the required material but how to be human. In order to be a teacher you need to teach as well as learn from your students. You need to discipline but also listen first. You need to know how to be kind and loving. Most importantly, you need to know how to be a friend.

Mrs. Sprinkle became my friend and I’m sure a friend to many others as well. She didn’t just have a big family at home but raised one in the classroom. She taught for many years and retired a few years after I left the eighth grade. Unfortunately Mrs. Sprinkle passed away not long after she retired. She left her memory, kindness, and love to all of those whom heart’s she touched during her years of working. I am glad that I had Mrs. Sprinkle as a teacher; she inspired me to become a great and loving teacher after her own heart.
