Hi, I`m Alisdair.

I`m a friendly and approachable full time tutor with twelve years experience in tutoring and teaching. I endeavour to help others develop and improve their learning through my passion for teaching. In addition, I am a good listener, which is essential for this.

I graduated with a 2:1 degree in psychology (BSc Hons) then went on to complete a Masters (MRes) in psychological methods, followed by a Ph.D in psychology/cognitive neuroscience. I also obtained a `Teach English as a foreign language` (TEFL) certificate.

My specialist subject of expertise is psychology and can help with all areas including: cognitive psychology, social psychology, research methods and statistics and more. I have been able to extend my expertise to teach sociology and tutor those using SPSS. Since 2006, I have taught psychology and research methods and statistics at various Universities in the U.K. and Canada to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as a tutor, demonstrator and lecturer.

I also have vast experience in tutoring students with assisted learning needs including Asperger syndrome, dyslexia and dyspraxia at group and one to one level. My one to one teaching experience extends to supervision of final year undergraduates and Masters students, therefore I have coherently supported and guided students through empirical projects, improving skills such as literature search & review, analysis and scientific writing.

In recent years, my tutoring has extended to AS and A-Level students, under the AQA, EDEXCEL and CIE exam boards. As a result of this, I can confidently and competently provide support to students at the early stages of learning psychology. If you are learning psychology on an `Access course` then I am able to assist you too.

In 2013, I was awarded an excellence in teaching award from the students un ion in my role as a demonstrator at Bournemouth University.

I also offer help with study skills, including exam preparation/revision, journal article reading, debate preparation, essay planning, report/dissertation writing, presentation skills and editing of work. If you need help using SPSS and interpreting data analysis, then get in touch.

Studying for many years has given me experience in realising the pressures that students face, and am able to use my awareness and knowledge to motivate learners. I feel my academic experience has given me the necessary skills to help students reach their full academic ability.

A-Level:

Alisdair was an amazing Tutor for my daughter. Her A Level tutor went on sick leave the term before her A Level exam, and after an initial couple of one to one meetings, we settled upon a series of Skype tutorials which were brilliant. Alisdair would send key exam questions for my daughter to do prior to the Skype tutorial, and she would send them back to him to mark before their tutorial. The system was so engaging and efficient that she went from a grade D in her mock A Level to a grade A in her actual A Level exam. Alisdair is flexible, personable and very effective.
