I believe that any student can learn. I believe that the only reason a student may be struggling is because material isn't being taught in the way that suits the individual. I try to uncover the different ways each student learns and present information in ways that make more sense to each student. I always try to make learning personal.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that any student can learn. The only reason they may be struggling is because it isn't being taught in the way that suits the individual. I try to uncover the different ways each student learns, and present information in ways that make more sense to them. I always try to make learning personal.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would go over with the student what their goals are for our tutoring sessions. Then I would have the student answer a few questions to assess where they are at and what they need to work on. Then, I start developing a plan with goals they can reach along the way.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I always ask a student to walk me through their thought process when completing an assignment. I find that if a student can describe the steps they are taking and why, then they are on the path to independent learning.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

When I ask a student what their overall goal is for our tutoring sessions, I will also create smaller goals for the student to achieve throughout the process. Reaching these small goals will be a motivation for the student because they will feel good about themselves and their achievements.
