What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy of teaching for learning is that every child has a special gift or talent, and it takes a determined and caring teacher to tap into those gifts and talents. A teacher can motivate and inspire to make a difference in a child's abilities and confidence level. A teacher can help a child realize his or her potential and use it in order to enhance the learning experience.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Give the student an assessment to evaluate their skills and understanding of the subject in relation to their grade level. This helps in determining personalized work plan for getting the student where he/she need to be, or where he/she would like to go.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Incorporate the student into the lesson planning so that he/she becomes a part of their own learning process.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Keep the student focused and engaged, and keep the lines of communication open.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

给学生阅读的目的。关注学生s' attention on what they are to learn. Help students to think actively as they read. Encourage students to monitor their comprehension. Help students to review content and relate what they have learned to what they already know.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Being aware of what they do understand. Identifying what they do not understand. Using appropriate strategies to resolve problems.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Connect what you're teaching to real life, use students' interests and fascinations, give students choices, present information in multiple formats, and teach students self-monitoring skills.
