学习是我的爱好之一。我从Northea英航stern Illinois University was an excellent spring board into my career path as a Sales and Marketing professional within the Health Care, and Biotechnology sector. My daily interactions with PhD scientists, MDs and many others, provided a constant learning environment for me to expand my knowlege base. These folks, we not just by clients, they were my teachers, my tutors and my inspiration to learn more. My tutoring experiences encompass, literacy, reading and writing skills for K-5 graders. I tutored within the Denver metro area and would travel to the elementary schools that had the greatest need. My passion for learning continued as I developed a rapour with each student, identified their needs, learned their skill sets, understood their feelings and adapted my tutoring style to each individual in order to provide the optimal learning situation for each student. My goal is to instill the joy of learning into each session, by building the student's confidence, self image, and skill set. I welcome a student, who present a challenge, because their sucess is my sucess!

I enjoy being outdoors, hiking, biking, tennis and golf and spending time with my family and friends.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Each student is an individual with individual learning styles, personalities and feelings. Develop a rapport with each student, instilling trust, authority, and confidence. Instill the joy of learning through accomplishment and confidence.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know the student. Ask them open-ended questions about themselves, their family and friends. Listen to the response, and use tidbits to make our tutoring sessions more personal and interesting. Also assess their attention span, look for any roadblocks, and discuss their apprehensions or fears regarding learning.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Provide them with tips on how to effectively study, manage time, break difficult assignments down into manageable pieces, and know where and whom to go to for help and resources. Find the joy in learning by emphasizing the good and important accomplishments.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Learn what their interests are and provide them with incentives that they can appreciate and achieve. Build their self-confidence and praise their accomplishments!

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Ask the student what specific entity is causing them trouble. Have them break the skill or concept down into smaller components or pieces, and then review them one by one so they can understand the big picture concept. Find a game that can help them learn the skill.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

First we do a picture walk and try to predict from the pictures what the story will be about. Then, when reading, we stop every other page and review what has happened so far. We can also write a list of what is happening as we read. Be sure the student is reading for comprehension, not just sight reading.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Ask them to talk about themselves: their hobbies, friends, favorite foods, favorite subjects in school, etc. Notice their eye contact, their attention span and personality. Listen to their needs and wants, and then provide them with an overview of how our tutoring sessions will look. Develop a rapport with them, and provide them with a roadmap regarding what our tutoring session will look like and what we will want to accomplish, as well as set goals for each session.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Learn their interests. Find ways to incorporate their interests into our subject matter. Make it fun, and praise them for their accomplishments.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

每个会话结束时,问学生牧师iew the key material we went over. Ask them to tell me, in their own words, what we just learned, and have them complete their assignment (if there is one).

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Be enthusiastic about the subject, and provide them with fun facts that will help them learn and remember. Praise them on the knowledge they already have. Provide them with new and engaging resources that will pique their interest.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Conversations with the student, body language, ability to focus on material, and asking them what they need or what is bothering them. How do they feel about the subject matter? Give brief testing questions that will provide insight into their progress.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Listening and watching how the student is reacting to me and to the subject matter. Asking the student, "Are we going to fast?," "What part don't you understand?," or "What do you think I could do better so you can learn this material?" Asking the student how they would like to be tutored.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

It depends on the student and if it is online or in-person. I will utilize their school materials and review them. Additional tutoring sessions may add additional resources based on the student and the progress.
