Varsity Tutors Scholarship Essay by Zion - December 2022 Scholarship Essay

The lessons I have learned, exposed me to four new qualities and they have shaped my high school experience by being most of the critical moments in my life. Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character have helped me achieve various successes in high school. I will continue to embrace those qualities after high school in my later future.

Scholarship, has shaped my high school experience by allowing me to be more academically involved. I have always had a love of learning. So much so that I am taking 4 AP classes in my senior year. I have never backed down from a challenge. I have been in honors and AP courses throughout my four years of high school. In addition to my rigorous course load, I am also involved in Science Olympiad, which I have been a part of for two years. I am also a part of the honors program my school calls the Eagle Scholars Program (ESP). Last year, one of my teachers recommended me for the Detroit Economics Club - Career Readiness Academy (DEC- CRA).This program involved being mentored by Detroit Economic Club young leaders that taught career readiness skills. In the program, I was introduced to career exploration and economics, personal branding, marketing myself, networking, and professional etiquette.

Leadership, has shaped my high school experience striving to be an astronomical example for others. I have always prided myself in being an example for others. I am involved in SAGA, one of the co-presidents, NHS where I am an active member and not afraid to speak up or use my voice, and LINK Crew where I help first-year students in my high school with whatever they need. On my high school Soccer team, I have been a critical asset in keeping our spirits positive and on track. I will likely be one of the captains this year. I have already talked to the coach about their requirements for being captain.

Service, has shaped my high school experience by allowing me to do what I love, giving back to others in any way I can. I am constantly doing service for others and causes. I am truly passionate about Autism, so much so that one of the things I want to do and be is an Autism Advocate/ Activist. I’ve done so many projects focused on Autism, like my Autism Awareness Slideshow back in 8th grade, where my whole middle school saw it, being a virtual Autism Advocate over the summer, gaining 40 community service hours for it, and raising $471 when my goal was $380. Then the Autism Acceptance Slideshow I made for April during my junior year. I’m also a PACK (Peers Assisting with Caring and Kindness) mentor, helping a boy with Autism in his health class. I sit with him in class and assist with whatever he needs. I tutor in school, and I have my own tutoring business on the side, I love tutoring and helping as many people as I can.

Character, has shaped my high school experience by shining a positive star/moonlight in people’s lives. I describe myself as a kind, caring, compassionate, patient, thoughtful, dedicated, hard-working, perseverent, and confident person. I have been that way throughout my life. However, this year about a few weeks ago, I got an email from one of my former teachers from last year about how I carry and present myself. It was not a great email to read, and I was truly distraught by it. However, that email just gave me a wake-up call, and I discussed it with several teachers, including the one that sent me the email. After some thought, I tweaked what I felt needed to be changed and focused on being more aware of myself.

我将继续显示和使用这些品质in my future personal, educational, and career goals. My future goals that will involve the pillars are working on myself and my values, staying on top of my schoolwork and not letting procrastination stop me, and being involved in the community. My future educational goals that will include the pillars are getting through and completing college, continuing higher education, and earning a master’s and onto a Ph.D. Finally, my future career goals that involve the pillars are being an Astrochemist or Space Psychologist at NASA, being a psychologist or neurologist and having my practice, being an Autism Advocate, running my own tutoring business for individuals with Autism or disabilities, being a translator, and more. I am always willing and open to trying new things, but when I am truly passionate about a cause, I will do everything I can for that cause. Everything I do has a reason. I do not do things illogically, and I always have an end goal in mind.
