Faith was the answer to my Problems by Sally - December 2022 Scholarship Essay

Life teaches us many lessons that we never expected to learn. Some may find it surprising, but I was a very religious person when I was young. I mean, I am still young, but I was very religious when I was six to ten years old. However, after experiencing some difficulties when I first arrived in America, I began to lose faith and began to distance myself from God, believing that I didn't need him. The difficulties increased in 2022, as I began my junior year and my parents became more ill than usual. The illnesses that they have been suffering from have made me realize that they are getting older, which means that they don’t have as many years left as me, so I may have to say goodbye to them at some point, which I don't think I will ever be ready for.
My parents' illness was the worst it had ever been. My mother developed insomnia, my father's back problems worsened, and both of my parents developed problems with their arms to the point where it was excruciatingly painful for them to move them. However, I was powerless to intervene. I don't have the power to make them better; no medications were helping much, and pain relievers only worked for an hour or two before the pain returned. So the only thing I could do for them was pray and ask God to help my parents, despite the fact that my faith was not the strongest at the time. I started praying really hard at night asking God to make my parents' pain go away and I slept. I awoke in the morning and asked how they felt today, and they said they felt great and slept well, and that's when I knew God was listening to my prayers and was always nearby. This experience taught me that if I can keep my faith strong even in the face of adversity, it will help me feel at peace and help me get through the year 2023 or the rest of my life and achieve goals that may not be easy to achieve.
