The School System is failing us.... by Abigail - October 2022 Scholarship Essay

To me, Education has been ruined by the school system which is why I do not correlate education with school. While the School system is the birthing ground for education many other have created other ways to learn. For example, Self-studying. After almost 12 years of being a part of a very much broken school system I have learned that I am my best teacher. With the ever-expanding technological community, I am able to learn in a way that better suits me.
Education for me as I go through my final year of high school has changed drastically while being compared to my interpretation of education when I was younger.
瞥一眼过去,我9岁4th grade. I wake myself up every morning, happily change into my school uniform, say goodbye to my parents, then rush out the door to hang out with my friends at the school bus stop. On the school bus, we talk about what the day has in store. Topics such as Book fairs, Science projects, and Music class run through our conversation as we watch our small world go by from the tiny window on the bus. We run off the bus, greet all the teachers with toothless grins and rush into our classrooms to sit on our little square carpet spots eagerly waiting for story time. Education when I was little was fun and lighthearted. I enjoyed waking up before the sun and sitting in the same building for 7 hours. I learned about topics that fueled my curious brain and taught me about other things outside of my small highway town.
Now as a Senior in high school and the ability to learn anything whenever I can I feel like Education has lost an impact on my life. Education now means nothing as we are simply able to look up any question we may have. It's sad to look back at little me who was excited to learn and loved the concept of school. During the summer I like to relearn the definition of education by learning about topics such as Business management, ASL, and Creative Writing. I wake up every day excited to continue my research on my desired topic. That same motivation I had when younger sprouts back into my eyes as I spend hours learning.
Education has lost its impact on me but as I begin to leave the school system my love for it is slowly creeping back. I have noticed a interest in reading more, having more logical conversations, and seeking out more intellectual friends. I hope one day that School system will be better accustomed to keeping learning fun and continuing on the little kid passion.
