Repeated Zeros

Thezerosarising from repeatedfactorsof apolynomialfunction are calledrepeated zeros.

Example:

f ( x ) = x 2 6 x + 9

Set f ( x ) to zero, factor and solve.

0 = ( x 3 ) ( x 3 )

x = 3 or x = 3

Since x 3 appears twice as a factor, 3 appears twice as a zero of the function and is called arepeated zeroof the function.
