I am a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in Education Psychology at Simon Fraser University. During my post-secondary education, I noticed that study and organizational skills are crucial in learning any discipline. Often these skills are not explicitly taught in schools.
In my first year of university, I attended study skill workshops at the library and applied these skills to my courses. From my own experience, developing a consistent and organized study routine improves academic performance and productivity as well as prevents burn-out. Once I began my graduate studies in Educational Psychology, I discovered evidence-based study skills, such as active recall. Research has shown that active recall improves learning and fosters long-term memory.
In terms of previous experience, I worked with students in elementary school, high school and university. Currently, I am mentoring rural students in BC on preparing for life after high school, which includes post-secondary education. I also recently led a seminar to help high school students with their transition to university. This seminar included an introduction to effective study skills for university.
我有强烈的热情,帮助高中一个d undergraduate students develop study and organization skills. I believe that it is important to learn how to learn. Often students are expected to learn specific knowledge, but are missing opportunities to develop learning strategies.
